We built BinKeeper to help you organize the physical stuff in your life. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it — in plain language.
Effective date: April 2026Short version: we collect what we need to run the app. We don't sell your data. We don't share it with advertisers. We use a small number of trusted third-party services to make the app work, and we've listed them below.
When you create a BinKeeper account, we collect your email address and a password (stored as a secure hash — we never see your actual password). We use this to identify you, let you log in, and send you important notices about your account.
Everything you add to BinKeeper — bin names, item names, descriptions, photos, tags, and check-in/check-out logs — is stored in your account. This is your data. We store it so the app works and so you can access it across devices.
If you use the AI Scanning feature, photos you take are sent to Anthropic (the company that makes Claude AI) to identify what's in the image. The photo is used to generate a name, description, and tags for your item. See Section 3 for more on this.
Photos you manually attach to items are stored in your account like any other item data.
We don't store your credit card number or payment details. All payments are handled by Stripe, a payment processor. We receive confirmation that a payment was made and what was purchased — that's it. See Section 3 for more on Stripe.
We collect basic information about how you use the app — things like how many bins you've created, how many AI scans you've used, and when your subscription renews. We use this to run the app correctly (for example, enforcing plan limits) and to understand whether the product is working well.
We do not build advertising profiles or sell usage data.
Like most apps, we receive some basic device information when you use BinKeeper — your operating system version and app version. We use this for debugging and compatibility. We do not track your location.
BinKeeper lets you make any bin "public," which means anyone who scans the QR code can view that bin's contents — without a BinKeeper account. This is a feature, not a bug, but it comes with an important implication:
If you make a bin public, its contents are visible to the entire world.
We show you a clear confirmation before a bin goes public. Once it's public, treat it like a public webpage — assume anyone could see it. Private bins are visible only to you and people you've explicitly shared them with.
You can toggle a bin back to private at any time.
We use a small set of trusted services to run BinKeeper. Here's who they are and what they do:
Firebase is the foundation of BinKeeper's backend. It handles user authentication (your login), stores your bin and item data, and runs the server-side logic that keeps everything working. Your data lives in Google's cloud infrastructure.
firebase.google.com/support/privacyStripe processes all payments for BinKeeper subscriptions and one-time purchases. When you pay for a plan, you're entering your payment information directly into Stripe's secure payment page — it never passes through our systems. We receive a notification that your payment was successful and what you purchased.
stripe.com/privacyWhen you use AI Scanning, photos you take are sent to Anthropic's API to identify what's in the image. Anthropic is bound by their own privacy policy and data use terms.
What this means practically: your photos are transmitted to and processed by Anthropic's servers when you use this feature. If you'd prefer not to share photos with a third party, don't use AI Scanning — manual item entry is always available and works just as well.
anthropic.com/privacyWe have no relationship with advertisers. None of these services are used to serve you ads or build advertising profiles.
BinKeeper lets you share bins with other users — household members, teammates, or anyone you invite. When you share a bin:
Be thoughtful about who you give access to. Once someone has access to a bin, they can see everything in it until you remove them.
You can view and edit all of your data inside the BinKeeper app at any time.
You can delete individual items, bins, or your entire account. When you delete your account, your data is removed from our active systems within 30 days. Firebase (Google) may retain data in automated backup snapshots for up to 180 days after deletion, after which it is permanently purged. We do not access or restore deleted data from backups.
We're working on an export feature that will let you download all of your bin and item data as a file. This is on our roadmap. In the meantime, if you need your data exported, contact us and we'll work something out manually.
We take reasonable steps to protect your data:
No system is perfectly secure. If you discover a security issue, please contact us immediately at admin@binkeeperapp.com and we'll address it as fast as we can.
What we won't promise: we can't guarantee that a determined, sophisticated attacker could never access your data. No app can honestly make that promise. What we can promise is that we take this seriously and will notify you if we become aware of a breach that affects your account.
BinKeeper does not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals from browsers, as there is no industry-standard interpretation of what DNT requires. We do not track you across third-party websites.
BinKeeper is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we'll remove it.
If we make significant changes to this policy — meaning changes that affect what data we collect or how we use it — we'll notify you by email before the changes take effect. Minor clarifications or corrections may be made without notice.
The current version of this policy is always available at binkeeperapp.com/privacy.
